Blog 16: Updated Research Plan

Statement of purpose (what you hope to show/discover):

With this study, I want to explore the need for a REVISION of the way revision is taught to students, primarily in high school, but also touching on college. Through my interview with Subject A, a college student, she mentioned that she felt a need for teaching revision at an earlier education level. When I looked back at the transcript, what Subject A said about revision supported this premise without her even saying it outright until the end. My spin on this is to use the data I got from this interview transcript to support the need for a change in writing education, considering revision.

Detailed statement of your research question(s):

1. How does my subject define revision?
2. When was my subject taught revision?
3. Why does my subject think we teach revision earlier?
4. What does my subject feel are the benefits of revision?
5. Where does my subject contradict herself in her feelings on revision?
6. Where does my subject contradict herself in her feelings on when revision is taught?
7. How does my data show a need for a change in writing education?
8. What are the shortcomings of my data?
9. How had the way my subject learned revision affected her?
10. What supports that there is a need for a change to revision education?

List of the information you need to gather:
I need to look up articles about revision, high school student revision, college student revision, (both for what is typically being taught when) and ways that revision education is changing already.

A preliminary list of sources:
-          I know it is really bad, but I don’t have any. I hope that now I have a coherent plan that I can work on finding information to support it.

Simply for clarification:
The Outline I want my Research Project to Follow is:
- Introduction: just a basic intro of all that I plan to go over
- Literature Review: information about revision, revision in high school, and revision in college
- Methods: How my subject felt revision was so vital, if only she learned it at a younger age
- Results: Needing a change to revision education overall, not just that it has to be taught earlier, but how it is taught needs to be changed too.

- Conclusion: however we are supposed to do a conclusion (I’m not quite short about this yet)
